Charles R.
Laspada, Jr.
May 10, 1945 — May 1, 2024
Charles R. LaSpada, Jr. passed away with his family by his side at home on May 1, 2024 following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on Mother's Day, May 10, 1945 to Charles R. LaSpada Sr. and Josephine (Costello) LaSpada in Chester, Pa., he was a proud 1963 graduate of St. James High School in Chester and earned his associate degree from Goldey-Beacom College.
Famous for protecting the mess hall in Germany as an army chef in his early 20s, he returned home to Brookhaven and soon met the love of his life Frances Morrissey, a beautiful Irish girl from Darby. They married in 1969 and would have celebrated their 55th anniversary in November. He is survived by Frances, daughter Cheri (Ryan Herlinger), son Christian (Molly), sister Jean LaSpada, granddaughters Katelyn and Avy Parker (Sparkles), grandson Christopher, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Josephine, brother Anthony, and cherished Aunt Julia.
He is also survived by The Holy Rollers, The St. James Bulldog Alumni, his Springhaven Club family, his little brother Pete and the gang at Zac's, and countless former LaSpada's employees who he mentored throughout his entire life.
He joined the family business, LaSpada's The Original, where he learned about life from his father and business from his Uncle John. He spent most of his life running LaSpada locations in Brookhaven and Milmont Park until he sold the business to his partner and friend Tommy.
He spent the last 20 years golfing, playing cards, bowling each Wednesday with his St. James buddies, working, enjoying his grandchildren, taking care of his wife and family and holding court throughout Delco - as only he could.
Charlie touched the lives of everyone who ever knew him. He did it his way.
"I've loved, I've laughed and cried. I've had my fill, my share of losing. And now, as tears subside. I find it all so amusing. To think I did all that. And may I say, not in a shy way. Oh, no, oh, no, not me. I did it my way."
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5-8 pm on Thursday, May 9th at Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home and again on Friday morning from 10-11 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church (2400 N. Providence Rd., Media, PA). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Mass will be livestreamed: https://www.stmarymagdalen.net/live-stream
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. James Alumni Association, 1499 East 9th Street, Eddystone, PA 19022 for a scholarship to be established in Charlie's name. stjbulldogs.org/donations
