Obituary

Charles S. Haum, Sr., (Charlie), age 99, born and raised in Newark, NJ, died peacefully on November 13, 2020 in Glen Mills, PA.  Charles was the husband of the late Doris M. Haum, who predeceased him in 2008, and son to the late Frank and Marie (nee Mack) Haum. He is survived by his son, Charles Jr. (Jane) of Winter Springs, FL. Charles was a thirty-year resident of Springfield, PA before moving into the Maris Grove Community in 2006.

Charlie was a graduate of South Side High in Newark, NJ and later attended Coleman Business College.  Employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad, Charlie worked various positions until he was shipped overseas in April of 1943 with the U.S. Army Military Railway Service.  He served in the African and Italian campaigns, completing his tour in Leghorn, Italy as Staff Sergeant, Yardmaster with the 719th Railway Operating Battalion. Upon his return to the Lehigh Valley in 1945, he returned to the Lehigh Valley Railroad as a Yardmaster before transferring to the Claims Department as an Investigator in New York. He enjoyed a long career with the Railroad and continued through its conveyance to Conrail where he earned the title of Chief Claim Agent in Philadelphia.

Mr. Haum will be buried with his wife at Cresthaven Memorial Park in Clifton, NJ.
