Cecile M. Simmons, age 98, died on December 2, 2022 in the comfort of her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Irving "Bud" Simmons, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Cecile and Bud were longtime residents of Longmeadow, MA, before moving to the West Chester and Glen Mills area where they resided for almost 30 years. Cecile was most recently a resident of Riddle Village in Media, until she moved to be with her daughter, Karen, during Covid and where she remained until the end of her life.
The daughter of Thomas F. and Raymonde (née Duviol) Mooney, Cecile was born and raised in East Orange, NJ. She attended St. Vincent's Academy in Newark, NJ and was awarded a full scholarship to St. Elizabeth College in Morristown. Always devoted to her faith and her family, Cecile was an active member of St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow and St. Maximillian Kolbe in West Chester. As a mother of 5 children Cecile's work never ended, but she always made time for her community, volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of America, the Coat Drive for The Catholic Worker and the Regional Cursillo Committee. Cecile was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting. She loved music and dancing, playing bridge with her friends, and traveling.
Cecile is survived by five children, Mimi Limbach (George) of Drexel Hill; Peter Simmons (Melanie) of Hampden, MA; Suzanne Murphy (Skip) of Havertown, PA; Karen Leinhauser (Dan) of Narberth, PA; and Judy DePlato (Claude) of Havertown, PA. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 7th at St. Mary Magdalen Church (2400 N. Providence Rd. Media, PA). Friends and family may call in the church from 10-11 am. Mass will begin at 11 am. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ will be at a later date.
