Obituary

Carol Schlieder Chapman, 76, of Media Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on March 30th 2024 after a brief illness. Carol was born to Quentin and Jean Schlieder of Upper Darby, PA and graduated Upper Darby High School in 1965. She married George "Rich" Chapman, her loving husband of 55 years, in 1966 and together they raised five children who all graduated from Penncrest High School. She completed her bachelor's degree in art conservation from University of Delaware in 1993. Carol is survived by her three siblings: Sally Helms (Dave), Quentin, & Bryan (Janet); and five children: Steven (Jenny), Kathy (David), Gregory (Kimberly), Andrew (Beth), and Thomas (Christy).

Carol successfully juggled motherhood, college, and an interesting career which began at DuPont Central Research. Her lifelong love of learning enabled her to blend her knowledge of chemistry and her extraordinary artistic talent to reinvent herself as an art conservationist for the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Winterthur Museum. She enjoyed traveling the world with Rich, exploring and meeting new people. She was gentle and radiant. She was intelligent and patient. Carol loved all living things, and her horticultural magic made all plants flourish. A friend to animals of all kinds, Carol kept many beloved pets over the years, including cats, collies, and a notorious Sun conure named Shrek. She loved and connected with people and would especially dote on her ten grandchildren and share in family events. In her retirement, Carol selflessly volunteered her time as a library assistant and helped organize fun activities in her Riddle Village community.

A celebration of Carol's life will be announced at a later date.
