Bill
Haines
d. Apr 5, 2026
To know Bill was to love him.
Robert William "Bill" Haines, 62, passed away on April 5, 2026, surrounded by his family after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Media, PA, Bill dedicated his life to serving others—whether through his work, his family, or his community. Though he is now at peace, his warmth, kindness, and ability to light up any room will never be forgotten.
A proud graduate of Penncrest High School, Bill fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a police officer by attending the Delaware County Police Academy. He went on to have a distinguished career in law enforcement, beginning with the Wildwood Crest Police Department and retiring from the Upper Providence Township Police Department after 35 years, where he left a lasting impact on the community. Throughout his career, Bill wore many hats—as a patrolman, corporal, criminal investigator, and sergeant. His dedication to his work extended beyond his police duties, as he also worked for Pulsations Nightclub, Delaware County CID, the Media Cemetery- It seemed like there wasn't a job he hadn't taken on.
After retiring, Bill continued to serve others while pursuing his passions. A lifelong enthusiast of muscle cars and motorcycles, he co-owned Otto's Car and Truck Repair and even managed a local band, The Delco Ratz. His love for life and giving back never wavered.
Bill's greatest accomplishment, however, was his family. He met the love of his life, Denise (Del Grosso) Haines, in Media, and together they shared 37 years of laughter, memories, and unconditional love. They built a beautiful life together in Media, raising four children—Billy, Kirsten, Hannah, and Andrew—and creating a home full of joy. Bill was happiest when surrounded by his family, whether grilling in the backyard, decorating for Halloween, coaching Media Little League baseball, leading Cub Scouts, or simply enjoying music on the deck. His love for the "beach life" was also shared with his family at their second home in South Carolina.
Bill was also known as "Pappy" to his five cherished grandchildren—Lilah, Amelia, Charlie, Harrison, and Baby McFadden. He loved nothing more than spoiling them with treats such as candy and Dairy Queen, sharing his joy and love with the next generation.
Bill was predeceased by his mother, Sandra Church Haines, and father, Robert Earl Haines (Bob) of Aston, PA. He is survived by his sister, Brenda Haines Duffy (Jack) of Media, PA; his beloved wife, Denise Del Grosso Haines; his sons, Billy Haines (Lexie) of Media, PA, and Andrew Haines of Media, PA; his daughters, Kirsten Haines Cox (Lane) of Surfside Beach, SC, and Hannah McFadden (Sasha) of Arlington, VA; his loyal yellow lab, Cooper Jackson; and his grandchildren Lilah, Amelia, Charlie, Harrison, and Baby McFadden. He is also survived by his mother- and father-in-law, Lou and Doris Del Grosso of Media, PA; his brother- and sister-in-law, Ron and Judy Fellman of Media, PA; and his sister-in-law, Amy Del Grosso of Louisville, KY, widow of the late Lou Del Grosso. He is also lovingly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues, all of whom will miss him deeply.
A celebration of Bill's life and lasting impact on all who knew him will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Reformation Lutheran Church, 102 West Rose Tree Road, Media, PA. Visitations for the family will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 AM and for the public 10:00 to 12:00 PM, followed by a service at 12:00 PM. A burial of his ashes will take place immediately following the service at Media Cemetery, 40 Kirk Lane, Media, PA.
