Obituary

Barbara K. Ashenfelter, a longtime resident of Media, passed away on September 22, 2021 two days before her 85th birthday. She was the loving wife of William R. Ashenfelter with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.  Mrs. Ashenfelter was born in Philadelphia to the late Robert and Bernice Kelly and spent her childhood years in Folcroft.

A devoted wife and mother, Barbara made a loving home for her family on Roberts Rd. where she lived for 62 years.  Mrs. Ashenfelter loved her local community. She worked for many years as a framer at The Paper Pad and was involved as a deacon, choir member, and Sunday School Teacher at Media Presbyterian Church.  When her children were young she served as a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Leader and was a member of the Junior Women's Club.  Barbara was a proud supporter of all Philadelphia sports teams, and she enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening.  She had a great appreciation for music and art and loved traveling and spending time at the beach.  Family was everything to Barbara, and she was most content at her husband's side.

Barbara is survived by her husband, William R. Ashenfelter, and children William "Chip" Ashenfelter (Tara) of Elverson, PA, Karen Ashenfelter of Clifton Heights, Susan Ashenfelter Rafetto of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Lauren Ashenfelter (Eric Erdmann) of Media.  She was the proud grandmother of Michelle Madsen, Samantha DeRitis (Chris), Danielle Rafetto, Dominique Wareham (Kyle), Jessica Ashenfelter, Kristina Ashenfelter, Eric Ashenfelter, Austin Dinger & Bradley Dinger, and great-grandmother of CJ DeRitis, River Wareham & Riley DeRitis.  She is also survived by her sister, Sandra McClelland (John), of Oreland, PA.
