"Artie "Arthur William Dorst, December 4, 1931 – January 11, 2023. Artie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and always considered himself a New Yorker. He grew up during the depression and World War II, graduated from Queens Vocational High School in 1949. After which he enlisted in the Navy at seventeen years of age and served almost four years as an Aviation Electronics Technician third Class during the Korean War, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, and serving on the U.S.S. Mindoro CVE-120. During his service he met his future wife Renee Katz at a dance in New York. After his service they married, having two sons Arthur and Steven, and remained married for sixty-six years until her death in December 2019. The family lived in New York until 1976 when they moved to South Jersey. He remained in South jersey until 2021 when he moved to Pennsylvania.
He worked in the defense industry and eventually became an Organizer for the International Union of Electrical Workers. He was a man of the people who spent his professional life fighting for the rights and improvement of working conditions of working people. Artie was a good Father and Husband, and a loyal friend. He was an avid New York sports fan, and loved playing the "Ponies", he had a good sense of humor, he always had a joke for any occasion, he enjoyed dancing with Renee, and was her caregiver during her final years. He and Renee enjoyed eating out, he was always up for some Chinese food, gathering with friends and family, going to the movies, and traveling.
Artie was predeceased by his wife Renee, parents Adam and Vivian. He is survived by his sons Artie and Steven their wives Christine and Cindy, Grand daughter Michelle Weston and her husband Matthew, his sister Edith and her husband Lee Stewart, and Niece Dawn Stewart.
Friends and family are invited to visitation hours at the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home in Media from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Friday, January 20, 2023.
