Obituary

Anna Maria Kaneda (Nee Praml)

Anna Maria (Anny) Kaneda, age 87, passed peacefully on June 14, 2024 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Newtown Square. She was born January 5, 1937 to Josef and Anna Praml in Schönberg Germany. She came to the United States in her early twenties serving as a nanny to a suburban Philadelphia family. Once the children were grown, she took a position at the John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia in the import department where she served as a buyer and customs entry specialist. After the Wanamaker store closed in 1996, Anny worked briefly in retail then did clerical work for a Public Accounting firm in Paoli, PA until she retired. She met George Kaneda in the mid 1970's. They were married in February 1981 and Anny seamlessly became part of the Kaneda family. Everything Anny did was done meticulously. Sewing, cooking, baking, crocheting, and helping husband George on weekends in his landscaping business, were all done artfully with loving precision. She enjoyed listening and relaxing to classical music. Although Anny never forgot her German roots, she was very honored to receive her Certificate of Naturalization as a U.S. citizen in 1985.

Anny is survived by her brother Josef Praml (Rosa), sisters Paula Königseder, Franziska Ismann, Monica Hofmann, all of Germany. She is predeceased by her husband George Kaneda and sisters Therese Praml and Rosemarie Wellich. She is survived by her step-children Robert Kaneda, (Betsy) of Harrisburg, Michael Kaneda (Michel) of Hilo HI, Thomas Kaneda (Barbara) of Media, Naomi Kaneda of Hollywood, CA, Mary Massaro of Broomall, Marisa Kaneda of Media, Dina Olsen of Coral Gables, FL, and Susan Robins (Tim Hunt) of Chesterfield, SC. She is also survived by her Goddaughter Johanna Gaudio. Anny was a devoted "Oma" to her step-grandchildren, Wendy Langan, Heather Kaneda, Michelle Battistini, Dina Kaneda, Cassi Kaneda, Krysty Kubojiri, Michael Keahi Kaneda, Pamela Kaneda, Stephanie Elyce Gonzalez, Natasha Kaneda, David Kaneda, Elizabeth Kaneda, Christina Kaneda, Joseph Kaneda, Michael Olsen, Melissa Dobol, David Robins, Alicia Biggs, Alex Robins, Nicholas Robins, Justin Yamamoto, Jordan Yamamoto, Ashley Yamamoto and many great-grandchildren.
