Obituary

On October 29th, Anita Frances (Young) Morris was called home to the Lord after 95 years of earthly life.

Born on August 16, 1931 in Gradyville, PA, Anita was the fourth daughter of Elizabeth and Joseph Young. Her childhood was spent on the sprawling estate of the Jeffords family (now Ridley Creek State Park), where her father was the head horse trainer. She loved to tell stories of how he would braid her hair similar to how it was done for the thoroughbreds, and stories of how as a little girl she’d fetch milk and eggs from where they were kept cold in the springhouse. Anita walked everywhere, including into Media where she went to high school. While classmates found her shy, her future husband Tom found her to be the girl of his dreams, taking her to Prom and promptly marrying her as soon as Anita’s father said it was ok.

Anita worked for a pharmacist and then continued as the bookkeeper for McCafferty’s, a service station where Tom advanced from mechanic to owner. Anita was a dutiful daughter, taking her Mom shopping every Thursday, and hosting the family Christmas dinner - an event that merited a specially made table for the large crowd - as her gift to her Mom and Dad.

Anita’s strong perseverance and dedicated faith, and her daily example of a loving wife and mother, were the bedrock that raised two daughters deep in their faith through the 60’s and 70’s, and later was an endearing influence on her seven grandchildren. She and Tom treasured over 70 years married, their family vacations first to Wildwood and then at a second home in Cape May. As an avid bird watcher, she treasured the sights at their backyard feeders and in the coastal waters.

Anita was predeceased by her parents, her husband Thomas, and her siblings Harriet, Mary and Alice Ann. She is survived by her daughters Regina (Carl -deceased) West, Diana (Paul) Armstrong, grandchildren Carl Thomas West (Michelle), Jason West, Katie West, and Patrick (Christy) West, Thomas (Megan) Armstrong, Sr Margaret Joseph VHM (formerly Joanna Armstrong), and Andrew (Sasha) Armstrong, and eleven great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at her childhood parish, St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church (Media, Pa) on Thursday, November 5th at 11 am. Visitation will start at 10am in the Church. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield.
