Andrea Michelle
Broadt
Nov 12, 1984 — Feb 26, 2023
Beloved mom, wife, daughter and sister Andrea Michelle Broadt died Feb. 26 at the age of 38. Her passing followed a courageous three-year battle against cancer.
Andrea will be remembered for her poise, intelligence, sense of humor, generosity and, most of all, her kindness.
Though Andrea was graced with many talents and accomplished much during her too-short lifetime, nothing made her prouder than being mom to her beautiful daughters Kaelyn, 7, and Everette, 3.
Andrea was born Nov. 12, 1984 to her adoring parents Pat and Tim Broadt. Together with her sister Lisa, Andrea enjoyed a childhood filled with imagination, art, learning and love. She attended elementary and middle schools at Westtown School, and graduated from Archmere Academy in 2003. During her time in school Andrea won numerous awards for her citizenship, scholarship and artistic talent, including top honors in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and Congressional Art Competition for her work in watercolor and photography. Andrea earned an undergraduate degree in fine arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007, and a master's degree in interior architecture and design from Drexel University in 2017.
Shortly after graduating from Penn, Andrea met Ryan Vass, the love of her life, and was married to him in 2016 in a romantic waterfront ceremony in Cape May, NJ. Andrea and Ryan welcomed daughter Kaelyn Sophia in 2015 and daughter Everette Madeline in 2019. The family relocated from Philadelphia to Media in 2018.
Andrea was a born organizer, designer and party planner, and spent several years working as the assistant director of membership at the Union League of Philadelphia. After earning her master's degree, Andrea worked for Array Architects, where she specialized in medical facility design -- work that she hoped could help other people, and especially other parents, facing family illness.
Outgoing, funny and sweet, Andrea had an ability to put people at ease and to make them feel welcome. A true "people person" she was an engaging conversationalist as well as an interested and considerate listener. Andrea was also extremely observant and perceptive -- skills that made her a master storyteller who could have her family in stitches just by recounting a small anecdote from her day.
Andrea's artistic talent and keen eye extended into every part of her life, and she had the incredible ability to take a simple project and make it extraordinary. Whatever the endeavor -- whether sewing a Halloween costume, developing fun lesson plans during lockdown, redecorating a room, helping plan her sister's wedding, folding origami or just coloring with her girls -- Andrea did it beautifully. She was renowned among family members for her remarkably creative and thoughtful gifts.
Andrea faced two bouts of cancer in her lifetime and on both occasions battled her illness with courage and tenacity that awed her friends and family. Though her bravery was quiet and at times private, Andrea had as much grit and determination as any of the heroines in the sci-fi and fantasy novels she loved so much.
For the last three years, even as she battled cancer and the associated treatments, Andrea continued to embrace and love life. She returned to her first artistic love -- watercolor -- and created breathtaking landscape and botanical paintings that are cherished by her family. Andrea, Ryan, Kaelyn and Evie made special memories attending Phillies games, getting together with their Bowling Green neighbors and taking trips to Cape May, the Poconos and Disney World. And Andrea, together with mom Pat, created lovely and lasting memories with special themed parties for her dad, sister, brother-in-law Tom and others.
She is survived by her daughters Kaelyn and Everette Vass, husband Ryan Vass, parents Pat and Tim Broadt and sister Lisa Broadt.
She is also survived by her aunt and uncle Helen and Rick Bergey, cousins Jonathan, Matthew and Erik Bergey, cousin Kathleen Dury, mother-in-law Eileen Vass, Eileen's partner Bob Blumenthal, sister-in-law Rachel Vass and brother-in-law Tom Mardis. She is predeceased by maternal grandmother Helen King, paternal grandparents Bob and Marion Broadt and father-in-law Keith Vass.
Andrea's loss is a tremendous one for the many, many people who loved her.
While we will forever hold her in our hearts, Andrea will be greatly missed.
Andrea will be buried in a private ceremony. A celebration of her life open to all friends and family will be held in the near future, at a date still to be determined.
