Alice D. Brown, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2020 at her daughter's home in Pace, Florida.  She was born in Media, PA to the late Norman and Pearl Racine West.

Mrs. Brown worked as a nurse's aide at Fair Acres in Pennsylvania and later Bissell Hospital in Delaware.  She settled in Newark, Delaware where she raised her children and attended Kingswood United Methodist Church.  Alice loved listening to Gospel and Country Music, crocheting hats and afghans, and reading.

Alice was the widow of Edwin Brown.  She was predeceased by two former husbands, Alexander Gillespie II and Otis C. Ferris, and also by her siblings Harry West, Larry West and Norma West.

She was an adoring mother to her seven children John Gillespie of Newark, DE, Susan Hammond of Bear, DE, Alexander Gillespie III of Bear, DE, Valerie Reed (Michael) of Pace, FL, Norman Gillespie of Newark, DE, Otis Gillespie (Ann) of Newark, DE, and Michael Ferris of Charlestown, MD.  Mrs. Brown is survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sisters Jean Bratten of Smyrna, DE and Betty Goodman (Richard) of Aston Mills, PA, and her       sister-in-law Harriet West of Boothwyn, PA.

There will be a private funeral service for the family, and a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
